Being a chameleon in the corporate world

illusion As some of you already know the corporate world is the modern jungle in the cities. Climbing the corporate ladder can be as challenging as being stuck on a deserted island trying to find shelter and food.

You need to learn quickly to navigate the illusional world, networking as much as you can while keeping, what I call the “kiss, kiss game going”. Which in a more elaborate way is wearing a pretty mask on your face that will mirror your environment. Always trying to stay out of trouble while buttering someone’s toast to please them.

It is also a game of chess, always on the prowl to see where are “the Queens and the Kings” on the board. Trying to let them know you are to help or show you are a great asset for them. You also need to keep your ears to the ground for any new comers or changes the company may be experiencing.

Many times, mergers and acquisitions will be the worst, for some individuals feeling it is time to drop some names to be on the chopping block to save their own heads just in case. Trying to ensure they have a sense of security or a leg up, when the time comes to see who stays who goes.

For the veterans of that game it can age you quickly watching the new comers thinking it is a big frat party. They can learn very quickly It’s an eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. Trying to make themselves indispensable could be a bigger challenge for themselves. Instead of trying to do that, they will use the social game. Always ready for happy hours or anything like an outside social event to show they are team players.

In this climate of madness, you can find yourself stuck in the middle between the veterans with their pretty masks and the new comers. While your head is spinning, becoming tired of the drama unfolding you only wish that everyone would stop putting themselves first but instead learn to work for the best interest of the company while learning to work together without playing games. Learning to be authentic and trustworthy for the greater good of everyone.

How wonderful would it be to go to work every day in such a peaceful environment?

My question for today is: are you a chameleon? Do you have to wear a mask or are you authentic?
