How to deal with unethical behaviors

ladderIn today’s essay, I am looking at unethical behavior.
I have seen so many people behaving unethically, it is scary to see this happening.

If we had a contest we would have several people on the top of the podium waiting with a smile on their face to receive their awards.

When you are working for a small or big corporation, some individuals, from the president to employees can act unethically. You can find them making decisions that could impact the company negatively. Most of the time they are doing this to either make more money, trying to surpass the competition or basically climb the corporate ladder.

In all those cases sooner or later my friend Karma will reset the balance. But before this happens, damaged can be done at a company level that could make the recovery difficult at best.

One thing we need to keep in mind, climbing the corporate ladder is a political game of chess. May the best schmoozer or liar win in that political game. Remember as much as you continue to do that, if you are not careful you could be stuck in a dead-end position unable to move up or latterly on the corporate ladder. People who work unethically will be discovered sooner or later.

For Presidents of companies that are working unethically, customers and vendors are going to realized sooner or later you are not trustworthy. Your company will not flourish the way it should be.  Again, you are the face of your company. The rest of your company is a reflection of you, meaning employees are going to behave the same way you do.

How do you deal with all of that, you may ask?
If the company you are currently working for is unethical, a word to the wise, look for another company that is trustworthy. If the people inside of the company are not behaving with the best interest of that company, you should stay away from them. If, unfortunately, you are working under someone who is behaving in an improper way, documentation is the key, keep records in writing. If someone is asking you to do something unethical make sure you have it on paper. Because your words against he/she will have no value.

Never engaged in unethical behavior even if the person above is threatening you. I have experienced that in the past. I stood my ground and made sure I documented what was happening. At the end, an investigation was done, I was cleared and the people who behaved unethically had to “face the music”.

Keep in mind Karma is always here to make us accountable for our actions. Even if you do not see the consequences people have to face when they are behaving badly, leave it to the Universe to take care of them. No one ever gets a free pass just because they think they can.

    and from now on each time a comment is added I receive 4 emails with

      Open the notification email you received when you subscribed to the website. There is a link called to “Manage Subscriptions.” By clicking on that link, you have the option to remove your subscription to the comments on that page.
