As I am sitting with my iPad on my lap, I am thinking about what the Universe wants me to share today.
It seems like we need to have more smiles on our faces. I am going back to memory land again to share another mischievous story.
We were under 10 years old, it was spring time the weather was beautiful. Next to our house was the neighbor’s house. The neighbors were elderly it wasn’t their main house but a secondary where they would have spent part of the summer. It was an interesting house, they had beautiful flowers from jonquils, tulips, roses and the lilac bushes.
I absolutely love those bushes, the aroma of the lilac flowers was just beautiful. To this day when I smell lilacs, that fragrance always brings me back to my childhood. Sitting on the top of the wall smelling the lilacs. I need to mention the wall was over 7 feet tall, we used to climb it bare handed without any ladders.
We shared a drive way with the neighbor. If you passed the drive way 100 yards up the street you could see a green wooden door it was part of the neighbor’s property. Behind it was the garden, their property formed an upside-down L shape from the drive way. If this makes sense
Back to that afternoon, my mother was at work, we again were all alone. We were bored, I cannot recall who got that bad idea this time. The neighbor’s flowers were all in full bloom it was beautiful to see them behind the fence that surrounded the house. We decided we should decorate their green wooden door with the flowers.
My older sister went upstairs grabbed the scissors, while one of us climbed the neighbor’s gate. Upon her returned we grabbed the scissors and started to cut the tulips first, then we went for the jonquils. We didn’t stop at the front yard we went in the backyard than continue to cut the flowers.
After collecting all the flowers we went by the green door on the street side. We started to place all of them on and around the green door. We even grabbed from home some of the empty pickle jars to place the remaining flowers in and to set them on the front of the door.
After we were done with our chef d’oeuvre, we left happy to have done something cute. A while after we were back home, one of my neighbor’s further down the street had a little stroll down the street. She saw the green door and figure out we were the artists. My mother was back home but didn’t realized what we have done.
The neighbor stopped by our house and showed what we had done. My mother was furious, we got punished. In the meantime, we had to clean up our mess. The neighbor who had discovered our misdeed was a good friend to our next-door neighbors. She told them we had a bad storm and all the flowers were damaged.
Somehow, they believed her, I need to mention our next-door neighbors were in their late 70’s, which saved us from being in deeper trouble. It did look stranger that spring and summer, when we looked at the neighbor’s front and backyard, they were no flowers.
